Hometown:  Whitinsville, Ma.

Unit at Loring:  811th Medical Group

First day at Loring:

Arrived in Oct., just a beautiful crisp day. First sgt. had his orderly take me on a tour of the base, I have to say I was overwhelmed by the size and beauty of Loring.

Most memorable experience:

While giving shots at the base dispensary to men going overseas it was amazing to see these big, rugged men pass out when we gave them four shot at once.

Last Day at Loring:   Cold, snowy Feb. 13, 1962. Signed out at the base hospital and had a 14 hour drive home to Ma. in the snow. Did stop overnight in Fairfield,Me. to stay with a good friend of mine who had another year to go. Broke up the long ride. Have been back to Loring twice, 2005 and 2009. Would like to go back one more time.

What did you do after Loring:

Used the G.I. bill to get an education in Engineering and spend 32 years working in the paper mill industry, ( managed to get to the mills in Maine ) Get married, have two daughters and two grandsons. Travel to Disney every year, Las Vegas every other year and trips to Huntington Beach,Ca.along with other destinations. I constantly tell my friends and young men how much I loved the Air Force and especially Loring.
