January 1965

Hometown: Staten Island, NY

Unit at Loring: 42nd Trans Sq

First day at LoringLeft LaGuardia airport in NYC with a fellow airman from my BMTS flight. Arrived at Presque Isle airport on a Northeast airline 4 engine turbo prop. First question was.....where is the terminal.....right over there, that wooden shack. Oh-Oh this is not beginning very well. Both of us being assigned to Trans Sq motor pool, we expected a free ride to base....no one there to meet us.......needed to take a cab. Processed in at base headquarters.....finally picked up by trans motor pool and taken to our squadron. Had our rooms assigned and went to evening chow.

Most memorable experience: On Duty....Too many to mention.....being in Trans Sq motor pool I came in contact with many different people.....airman....officers....civilian....celebrities visiting the base, etc. Gave a young airman a well rounded experience of deaing with people.

Off duty....Cannan's in Mad Town (Madawaska)......Plymouth Hotel in Fort Fairfield and of course Grand Falls NB, where I met my  wife.

Last Day at Loring: Finished out processing.....said my goodbye's.....headed south to NYC, vowing one day to return permanently.

What did you do after Loring: Retired from Pennwalt Corp......manufacturing management.

Keeping with my vow......made the permanent move to Northern Maine in the summer of 2010.
