Hometown: Ann Arbor, MI
Unit at Loring: 42 FMS (Airframe Repair Shop)
First day at Loring:
Came on base at the end of November with the family and spent the first few days with the Calvin and Charlotte Dykeman while waiting quarters.
Most memorable experience:
My orders were to the 42 OMS as crew chief, but instead of signing in at OMS I went to the CO of FMS and told him I wished to work for him. He told me to get settled in, and not to even go to the OMS until I heard back from him. Two weeks later I was in the big WARM hanger, not the flightline! lol Unlike most it would seem, I really didn't enjoy my Loring experience, never having even one day without seeing snow the 5 months we were there. And I might add we were only there thanks to my early out being canceled by Robert McNamara.
Last Day at Loring:
May 1, 1967, snow was still on the ground in places! Now after 8 years in the AF it was time to go back to Michigan and work the auto factories.
