Hometown: Sterling Heights, MI
Unit at Loring: 42 FMS
First day at Loring:
I remember riding the bus through the Hainsville woods and seeing snow still on the ground in late April. Turned on my roommate's radio ( hadn't met him yet) and heard the local weather man predicting bright sun shiney clouds!! Remember thinking "WHERE AM I??" While signing in at the Orderly Room, I met First Sgt. Patterson.....what a piece of work he was.
Most memorable experience:
I was in a group of crazies who called themselves "The Internationals" I believe the name came from all the places the guys had been stationed. I vaguely recall there was a little drinking involved !!! I still hear from some of them all these years later!! Loring truly was a special place.
Last Day at Loring:
Hectic like any COS. Had cross trained into missles and was on my way to Turkey.
What did you do after Loring:
I used my service training (Ground Power) to continue working in the electrical field for eight years as a contractor and thirty-one years as an electrician at Ford Motor Company. I retired in 2002. I married my high-school sweetheart 46 years ago and our four children have blessed us with a dozen grandchildren. My life has been good in part because of the life and work skills I learned at that most formative time.
