First Day at Loring: I arrived March 1962 in the middle of a snowstorm.  The AF bus picked me up at the Presque Isle Airport and drove me to the base.   I remember it being a lonely ride, as I was the only one on the bus.  Looking out the windows at all the snow and tall pine trees, I felt completely lost.
Most Memorable Experience: My favorite time at Loring was spending off-duty time in Grand Falls, New Brunswick.  One of my most memorable events was going to midnight Mass on Christmas Eve 1964 with my date, Joanne St. Amand.  It was a very cold and snowy evening and I had to stay overnight because of the bad roads back to the base.
Last Day at Loring: October 4, 1965 was one day I will never forget.  I rode with my friend, Timothy Campbell, who was discharged a day earlier, to his hometown of Stillwater, NY.  Stayed with him for a few days and flew from Albany, NY to Cincinnati and then caught the Trailways bus back home to Indiana.
What did you do after Loring? "Missing the camaraderie, I joined the AF Reserves in July 1966 as an Air Reserve Technician and was recalled to active duty on May 13, 1968.  Received upgrade training as a Flight Engineer on AC-119 G Gunships at Lockbourne AFB, OH and then went to Vietnam on January 1969. I was awarded the DFC and Air Medal with 3 OLC's.

After leaving the Reserves, I continued my career as a Federal employee and retired from the Federal Aviation Administration in September 1998, after 36 years Federal service.  I retired once again from private industry in February 2010 from NetJets and am now fully retired.  Presently, my wife and I are living in Kings Mills, OH near my son in Mason, OH and daughter in Upper Arlington, OH, and enjoying my four granddaughters."
