Hometown:  San Diego, CA

Unit at Loring:  42nd SPS

First day at Loring:  Early November, so it was gray, chilly, and not very inviting. Sat on the Bluebird bus at Presque Isle airport for 40 minutes with one other guy after Northeast Airlines had deposited us there. The driver finally showed up and the scenery got no better. On the other hand, as we approached the base I saw a couple of F-106's (83rd FIS at that point) zipping around the pattern and that got my interest as I hadn't expected any fighters at a SAC base. Barracks was depressing - 3 to a room with the senior guy always wanting the temp at about 85 - miserable! But things got better over time.

Most memorable experience:   Hard to pick one - watching the Northern Lights, being the "Close-In Security" for the very first SRAM upload, playing cards in the day room.

Last Day at Loring:   Don't recall - was heading off to Turkey and was just happy to be going to see someplace else!

What did you do after Loring: College, telecommunications technician, worked as a ground operations guy in the airlines for many years, now a tech writer.
