Hometown:  Schuylkill County, PA

Unit at Loring:  Hospital (811th Medical Group)

First day at Loring:

Not very intimidating.  Good folks at in-processing (building 6000, I believe). Got moved in to the medical barracks within a few hours, met some of the medics and walked to the hospital to look around.

Most memorable experience:

Don't know I I have a favorite or not, but one that sticks out was an ambulance call we had one afternoon.  An A/C maintenance crewmember was working on the tail of a KC-135.  Somebody activated the rudder and it smacked him.  I had to climb up with another guy to fetch him.  The horozontal stabilizers seemed really high and I HATED heights!  (I know, why did I join the USAF??)  After nearly slipping off and nearly wetting myself, we got him loaded up and back to the hospital - he was ok, thankfully).

Last Day at Loring:

Lots of snow! the two days prior to leaving we had over 40 inches of snow, but I made it to the base (I lived in an apartment in Caribou) to out-process and then head back to P

What did you do after Loring:

PA school at Dartmouth after discharge, first job with the Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare for almost three years, then almost 24 with the Federal Prison System till I retired in '01.  Now working in-patient medicine at a local hospital
