Home Town: Binghamton, NY
Unit at Loring: 42nd AMS
First Day at Loring: I remember being very excited. The 42nd AMS ( Doppler radar/ Inertial nav shop) was my first permanent party assignment after tech school at Keesler AFB. I was going to work on B-52's and KC-135's !!! We all made fun of it in our own ways, but there was no mistaking how serious the business at hand was.
Most Memorable Experience: The night I dispatched a Bat with a wooden cane from the safety board in the shop and hung it in the Radar shop with a NRTS tag on it with the reason for failure being "Radar inop". I turned out the bat was not dead, just stunned, which gave the radar shop tech a few extra heartbeats that night.
Last Day at Loring: It was time to move on. PCS'ing to Hahn AB Germany. I "enjoyed" all 4 seasons at Loring...... Summer, Winter, Winter, and Winter. I remember thinking about whether I would ever see any of the fantastic folks I served with at Loring again, but I was very excited to go on the next great adventure overseas.
What did you do after Loring? Pcs'd to Hahn AB, Germany then to Sembach AB, Germany. Seperated in August of 1983  With my spouse and a newborn son ( Made in Germany) in tow and on to a comprehensive career in high tech electronic systems.
