Unit at Loring:  Bomb Nav

First day at Loring:

Quiet. Long drive up from Norfolk, VA.  Ate some pizza, drank a beer, went to sleep.

Most memorable experience:  

The DO's furniture.  DO transfers in and is waiting on his household goods. They get delivered in a sandwich baggy.  Turns out the truck caught fire and burnt down to the axle.  No problem.  File the claim and then beat your brains out on that economy buying a houseful of new furnishings. Mission accomplished.  Eventually, the DO takes leave during an ugly winter.  While on that leave, electricity goes out, pipes burst, house floods.  DO returns to furnishings that are not only water damaged but also frozen to the floor in the cake of ice.  No problem.  File the...

Last Day at Loring:  

Hectic. 5 days from assignment notification to Loring in the rear view mirror. Left quickly to command the Services squadron at Bitburg AB GE.


What did you do after Loring:

Retired twice.  First AF, then from industry.  Spent 10 years pushing the large square peg (UAVs) through the small round orifice (AF buraucracy).  Guess what -- the peg fit, just like I said it would.
