Home Town: Las Vegas, NV
Unit at Loring: 2192 Communications Squadron
First Day at Loring: I arrived at Loring AFB in the summer of 1982. It was a very pleasant day when I arrived at my new assignment. It was a bid humid but no moreso than any other day in New England.
Most Memorable Experience: My duty section always had someone on stand-by. One cold December day while on stand-by the "pager" went off. It was the Command Post. I called the CP and was advised that there were two sorties added to the schedule. I walked through the unshoveled snow on the road from the enlisted dorms to Base Ops to do some paperwork for the two additional sorties. Upon arrival at Base Ops I was advised by the NCO on duty that they had cancelled the two additional sorties & that I could return home. The CP had failed to "page" me to let me know of the cancellation of the two additional sorties. Keep in mind while I was at Base Ops I asked the Meteorology person what the current temperature was outside. He told me that it was -70 with a wind chill factor. This was not a good day for me! Not a good day for a walk outdoors.
Last Day at Loring: I left Loring AFB in November of 1985. It was a cold day that I'll never forget. I recall driving off the base for the last time. I had spent 2 1/2 years at Loring AFB.
What did you do after Loring? I've worked at various jobs in the southwest United States. Loring sort of "soured me" on living in the snow. I'm also the owner/moderator of three (3) Loring AFB Yahoogroups as well. The name of the primary Yahoogroup is, "Loring AFB Yahoogroup" which is listed below.
