Home Town: Charlton, MA
Unit at Loring: 42 SPS
First Day at Loring: Arrived in the middle of December, right in the middle of the winter. It was unbelievably cold and I remember being shocked at the huge amount of snow everywhere.
Most Memorable Experience: I remember going to the NCO club to eat breakfast one morning after working midnight shift. I didn't own a car so I walked from the SP Squadron to the club. While I was eating breakfast a big snow storm came in, and after I finished eating I started walking home to the dorm. It was snowing so hard I couldn't see anything in the blizzard and couldn't find the dorm. What was normally less than a ten minute walk took me about half an hour. For a while I was really worried that I wouldn't make it!
Last Day at Loring: It was a nice summer day at the end of July in 1984. As I drove away, I remember thinking that some day I would go back to Loring for a visit, and 20 years later, I did just that.
What did you do after Loring? Had duty assignments in Washington state, Arkansas, Germany, and Kansas. Eventually retired from the military in 2001 and now work for the Department of Veterans Affairs in Leavenworth, Kansas.
