In Memory of Mr. John W. Tweed

LIMESTONE - John W. Tweed, 68, husband of the late Gail J. (Libby) Tweed, passed away unexpectedly Sunday evening, Sept. 18, 2011, in Frenchville, as the result of an ATV accident. He was born Oct. 13, 1942, in Woodbury, N.J., son of Donald and Doris (Betz) Tweed. He was a graduate of Edgewood High School and served in the U.S. Air Force from 1963 to 1967, and was stationed at Loring Air Force Base, Limestone. He was married to Gail J. Libby, July 2, 1965. John was an electrician with I.B.W. Local 351 for many years and also was self-employed as a potato farmer in Limestone from 1978 to 1995. Mr. Tweed was a member of American Legion O'Bar-Phair Post No. 127, Limestone, and a member of Limestone Masonic Lodge No. 214 AF & AM for more than 27 years, where he served in several capacities. John was also a member of the Scottish Rite Lodge of Perfection, Valley of Bangor, Maine Consistory, 32nd Degree Freemasonry, Valley of Portland, Anah Temple Shrine, Aroostook Shrine Club and the Oriental Band. John attended Limestone United Methodist Church and wintered in Boynton Beach, Fla., for the past several years. In addition to his parents, Mr. Tweed was predeceased by his wife, Gail, Feb. 27, 2006. He is survived by four sons, Tyler Tweed and his wife, Rhonda, of Wells, Tim Tweed of Limestone, Brian Tweed of Northport and Brent Tweed and his wife, Christina, of North Berwick; one brother, Donald Earling Tweed and his wife, Joan, of Cape May Court House, N.J.; one sister, Juanita Tweed of Berlin, N.J.; four grandchildren, Brielle and Claire Tweed, both of North Berwick, Brandon and Blair Tweed, both of Wells; several nieces and nephews. John also leaves behind a special friend, Joyce Perreault of Concord, N.H. Friends may call 6-9 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 22, at Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home, 144 Main St., Fort Fairfield, where a Masonic memorial service will be conducted 7 p.m. by the officers of Limestone Lodge No. 214 AF & AM. The funeral service will be conducted 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 23, at Limestone United Methodist Church, Main Street, Limestone, with Pastor Ellen Cleaves officiating. A time of continued fellowship with refreshments will be held immediately after the funeral service at the church reception area. Interment will take place 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 24, at Webster Cemetery, Limestone. Those who wish may contribute in memory of Mr. Tweed to the Limestone Lodge Building Association, care of John Hotelling, 206 Long Road, Limestone, ME 04750. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home and church.
