My thoughts while working on this project...

As I started working on this project, it kept coming back to me how much I was "in a tunnel" during my time at Loring.  I was just a kid (19) and from Florida, never seen snow, never been north of NJ.  I had such a horrible outlook about Loring, and absolutely no interest in it's history.

To realize now how important that base was, and the absolutely unique contribution those before me, and after me made in supporting the defense of our nation as "the tip of the spear" makes me very humble.  To learn about things like the 3080th Aviation Depot Group, and hear the snippet's of history by members of the Loring AFB Group really does give me a new respect for the old base.

If you were never stationed at Loring, please enjoy the rich heritage this site will attempt to preserve.

If you were stationed at Loring, I hope you begin to get a feel for the unique and important mission Loring AFB occupied in the aftermath of World War II, and the onset of the Cold War.  There were many "firsts" for Loring AFB, and it is not hyperbole to state she was "The tip of the spear".

If I can help others feel the way I do by presenting this site to the men and women who served at Loring, I will have accomplished what I set out to do...

Thank you again for your service.
